LUIS J. RODRIGUEZ: THE PROBLEM WITH BOTH PARTIES
Both parties are corporate run. Different sectors of the U.S. ruling class, and I’m talking about the richest, most powerful, and entrenched capitalist powers, have been running the country since its founding, regardless of which party is elected.
With all the supposed disagreements and differences—with one party more right, the other more left; one conservative, the other liberal; one more about democratic means, the other more authoritarian—this social class, or parts thereof, has always run the economy. And therefore, politics.
The Democrats, for all their talk about being an umbrella political party, embracing a wide variety of people and classes, are run by a sector of that ruling class (more “liberal” if you will). As for the Republicans they are now controlled by MAGA, the more extreme right-wing sector.
HISTORY: THE BLACK SLAVES WHO ESCAPED TO MEXICO
When most Americans think about migration between Mexico and the United States, they imagine a one-way flow from south to north. Historically, this has largely been the case, with millions of Mexicans seeking opportunities in the U.S.
But migration hasn’t always followed this pattern. At different points in history, significant numbers of Americans have crossed the Rio Grande heading south. Among the most notable were enslaved Black people, who fled to Mexico in search of freedom and safety, particularly in the decades leading up to the U.S. Civil War.
From the very start of its independence, Mexico distinguished itself as a nation with a progressive stance on slavery. In 1829, President Vicente Guerrero —someone whom we would call today an Afro-Mexican—issued a decree abolishing slavery.

TRUMP BACKS H-1B VISAS AMID IMMIGRATION DEBATE
In a statement to The Post on Saturday, President-elect Donald Trump voiced his support for the H-1B visa program, a stance that aligns him with tech entrepreneur Elon Musk in the ongoing debate within MAGA circles over immigration policy.
The H-1B visa is a nonimmigrant category that permits employers to sponsor highly educated foreign workers in fields that require at least a bachelor's degree. It is a temporary visa, typically valid for three years, with the possibility of extending it for a maximum of six years.
The program is especially popular among tech companies, which rely on it to fill specialized roles.
JIMMY CARTER’S FRIENDSHIP WITH CESAR CHAVEZ
Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, has passed away at the age of 100.
Carter’s relationship with labor leader Cesar Chavez also stands as a significant chapter in his career. In 1976, Chavez, the president of the United Farm Workers (UFW), pledged the union’s support for Carter’s presidential campaign.
Carter, in turn, expressed his commitment to advancing the rights of farmworkers. He voiced strong support for Proposition 14, a legislative effort aimed at securing the right to collective bargaining and free elections for agricultural laborers—issues close to Chavez’s heart.
ANCIENT PRE-HISPANIC PYRAMID UNEARTHED
An archaeological discovery has been made in central Mexico, where road construction unearthed a large, pyramid-shaped structure believed to date back thousands of years.
The discovery was confirmed by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), which announced the find in a recent statement.
The structure, identified as a "pyramidal base," was located in the Sierra Alta region of Hidalgo, a state located north of Mexico City. In archaeological terms, a pyramidal base refers to the lower portion or foundation of a pyramid, providing crucial insights into the design and purpose of ancient monumental architecture.
IS “LA MISSION” AN UNDERRATED CHICANO FILM?
For Che, gentrification and progressive ideals read all the same. They are both threatening his ideals and the home that he has known his whole life.
Keeping in mind Che’s disdain for the European conquerors of the past, Che may feel as if gentrification is like modern colonization and as if progressive opinions are like “forced language and religion.”
Che’s animosity towards gentrification and progressive ideals explains his desire to protect his culture and family from (often Anglo led) projects that dominate his familial space and erase the Latino culture embedded within it. For this reason, he commits to protecting both the physical space of his home and that which comprises his home: his family.
