55 Years Later: Honoring The Chicano Moratorium And Its Modern Parallels 🚨
This month, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors commemorated the 55th anniversary of the Chicano Moratorium, a historic protest against the Vietnam War's disproportionate impact on Latino communities.
The motion drew striking parallels between the injustices of 1970 and the current wave of immigration raids under the Trump administration. Since June, over 8,500 arrests have been made in Southern California, disproportionately affecting Latino and immigrant families.

Is “La Mission” An Underrated Chicano Classic? 🎬
Films are a cornerstone of Latino American pop culture. Unfortunately, the few films for, by, and starring Latinos are underappreciated and framed as mediocre.
Given the ample time the quarantine provides us with and in an effort to spotlight these commonly glossed over gems, I am beginning a series of articles in which I recommend and provide an analysis/review of what I believe to be some of the most significant Latino films of the last few decades.
Poll: California Voters Resist Newsom’s Redistricting Push? 👀
A new poll shows strong bipartisan support for California's independent redistricting commission, complicating Governor Gavin Newsom's efforts to redraw congressional maps. Nearly two-thirds of voters prefer the current system, which uses an independent panel to determine district lines, over giving that power back to lawmakers.
Newsom and state Democrats argue the move is necessary to counter Republican gerrymandering in Texas, but public skepticism of lawmaker-drawn maps presents a significant hurdle.
San Bernardino Family Says Federal Agents Opened Fire ⚠️
A San Bernardino family alleges that federal agents fired at their truck during a vehicle stop, shattering windows and leaving bullet holes. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) claims the agents acted in self-defense after the driver attempted to run them down.
Video footage captured by the family shows agents breaking the truck's windows, but it does not clearly depict the alleged assault on the officers. The incident has sparked outrage and raised questions about the use of force in immigration enforcement.
U.S Military Ramps Up Presence In Latin America 🥴
The U.S. military is deploying over 4,000 troops to the Caribbean and Latin America as part of a counter-cartel mission under President Trump. The operation includes advanced naval and aerial assets, such as destroyers, reconnaissance aircraft, and a nuclear-powered submarine.
Officials describe the move as a show of force aimed at addressing threats from narco-terrorist organizations, though they emphasize that no immediate military action is planned.
The Anti-Fascist Cartoons Of Mexican Artist Antonio Arias-Bernal 🔦
In recent years, the history of Mexico’s participation in World War II through the valiant pilots of Squadron 201 has acquired new interest. The Aztec Eagles fought in the Pacific under the command of legendary Douglas MacArthur.
Less known is the story of another Mexican combatant who never wore a soldier’s uniform, left the American continent, got on a war plane, or held a weapon. What’s more, Antonio Arias-Bernal couldn’t scare a mouse. A former funeral home employee, he was short, skinny, and good-humored.

Defiant History is a compelling new micro‑documentary series created by filmmaker Brandon Loran Maxwell, best known for his work on American Homeboy. The series is now available to watch on the Daily Chela YouTube channel.
The three‑episode pilot dives into underrepresented slices of American subculture—like lowrider club plaques, Teen Angels magazine, prison‑based rehabilitation efforts, and graffiti art.
