“Defiant History” Secures Distribution Deal with Comcast Xumo and Tubi
Season 1 will be available to watch on major streaming services this November.
Los Angeles, CA – September 4, 2025 – The powerful new documentary series Defiant History, produced by Chela Media and directed by Brandon Loran Maxwell, has been officially acquired by Comcast Xumo and Tubi, with an anticipated release date set for November 2025.
Described by Maxwell as "American Pickers meets Parts Unknown—but with a street twist,” DEFIANT HISTORY is a conceptual exploration of the "artifacts, outsiders, and underdogs who define America."
“With Defiant History, we wanted to capture the grit and resilience of those who pushed against the grain and redefined what America could be,” said director Brandon Loran Maxwell. “Partnering with Comcast Xumo and Tubi means these stories will reach millions of people who may see themselves reflected in them for the first time.”
Each episode runs 13–15 minutes and takes viewers on a visually rich journey into different misunderstood and underrepresented pockets of American culture.

The three episode pilot season features stories on lowrider club plaques, prison rehabilitation, and graffiti culture. Guests include: Compton David Oropeza (“Tattoo Nation”), Matt Cammarano (Sullen Art Collective), Brian James, Bruno Hernandez (Venice art walls), and others.
The series’ dual-platform release across Comcast Xumo’s free streaming TV service and Tubi’s massive AVOD library ensures maximum accessibility to audiences hungry for meaningful, thought-provoking content without subscription barriers.
