First Taco Stand To Earn Michelin Star
Tacos El Califa de León has become the first Mexican taco stand to earn a Michelin Star. The stand is located in Mexico City and only specializes in tacos. Michelin Stars represent excellence, and are only handed out to a handful of restaurants every year. In addition to being the first Mexican taco stand, Tacos El Califa de León is also the smallest restaurant to ever earn the coveted award.
Poll: Latinas Are Optimistic About Future
A new poll by Pew Research has found that Latinas are optimistic about the future. According to Pew, “half of Latinas see progress in Hispanic women’s situation in the United States during the last decade, and a similar share expect their group’s situation will improve in the next 10 years.” Similarly, the poll found more than half of Latino men also had a positive outlook on the future.
Chuck Schumer Wants Immigration Vote
Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has proposed a new immigration bill, which he plans to put up for a vote next week. The bill would raise the “credible fear” standard for those seeking asylum. In addition, the bill would restrict which ports of entry immigrants are allowed to claim asylum. The bill is a response to polls which show growing immigration concerns among Americans on both sides of the political aisle.
Petersen Museum Spotlights Lowriding
The Petersen Museum in Los Angeles is offering a new exhibit called “Best In Low,” which spotlights lowrider customization over the years. According to Petersen, the new exhibit will “turns a lens on the creation of the car itself, as well as on the street and the show—spaces where the craft of lowriding is on full display.” The event runs from Spring 2024 through Spring 2025.
