Most Latinos Reject “Latinx” Label In Survey
A study highlighted by NBC News shows that roughly half of Latinos say they have never even heard the term “Latinx,” and just 4% actually use it to describe themselves.
The findings reinforce years of polling showing the term is largely confined to academic, activist, and political circles, rather than everyday language in Latino communities. Pew Research Center data continues to show most prefer “Hispanic” or “Latino.”
Immigration Fight Sparks Partial Homeland Security Shutdown
A clash in Washington over immigration funding has triggered a partial shutdown affecting the Department of Homeland Security, disrupting some administrative operations and raising alarms about border management.
Lawmakers remain deadlocked over spending levels, enforcement policies, and humanitarian programs, with each side accusing the other of playing politics with national security. The standoff underscores how central immigration remains to U.S. politics heading into the midterms.
Mexico Sends Aid Ships To Cuba Amid U.S. Oil Pressure
Mexican vessels have arrived in Cuba carrying humanitarian cargo as the island faces energy shortages tied to U.S. oil restrictions. The move signals Mexico’s willingness to step into the gap with fuel and supplies, even as Washington maintains pressure on Havana through sanctions aimed at limiting its access to global energy markets.
The shipments underscore shifting regional dynamics in Latin America, where governments increasingly pursue independent policies on Cuba despite U.S. objections.
