The iconic norteño band Los Tigres Del Norte is set to make a special guest appearance on The Simpsons.
The appearance marks a significant cultural moment for the long-running animated series. The band will perform a traditional corrido in an upcoming episode titled “The Fall Guy-Yi-Yi,” which airs this Sunday.
The collaboration brings one of Mexico’s most legendary music groups into the world of Springfield. The song, titled “El Corrido de Pedro y Homero,” will close out the episode, telling the story of Homer Simpson and his new friend Pedro.
A Landmark Collaboration
In a statement to Rolling Stone, Los Tigres Del Norte expressed their excitement about the project. “We are deeply grateful and very happy for this special moment in our history, being part of the universe of The Simpsons,” the band said.
They highlighted the importance of their music crossing cultural and generational lines, adding, “For us, it’s an honor that our stories continue to cross borders, cultures, and generations. When music tells stories, it can reach anywhere… even Springfield.”
The episode’s writer and producer, Cesar Mazariegos, saw the inclusion of the band as a “tip of the hat” to the show’s large Latin American and Mexican-American fanbase. He felt that a corrido was the perfect way to conclude the episode’s narrative, which centers on Homer becoming a secret stuntman for a beloved comedian.
Mazariegos shared that Los Tigres Del Norte was the first and immediate choice for this musical feature. He recalled growing up with their music, which often played from his uncle’s truck in Colombia. He considers the group “absolute, worldwide legends” and was thrilled when they agreed to participate, assuming their busy tour schedule might prevent it.
The Power of the Corrido
The corrido is a traditional Mexican narrative ballad form, often telling stories of heroes, historical events, and social commentary. By featuring “El Corrido de Pedro y Homero,” The Simpsons honors this rich storytelling tradition.
Mazariegos described the new song as an “awesome, lively and fun tune, that still has that dramatic storytelling that [Los Tigres] is known for.”
The guest appearance places Los Tigres Del Norte among a prestigious list of musical icons who have visited Springfield.
Previous musical guests have included artists like U2, The Ramones, Paul McCartney, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. More recently, Bad Bunny also collaborated with the show for a special short film.
The episode not only celebrates the musical legacy of Los Tigres Del Norte but also highlights the growing influence of Latin culture in mainstream American entertainment.
