Feature: Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani Is Baseball’s Final Boss
Ohtani is uniquely dominant as a pitcher. He steps onto the mound with a blistering fastball that can touch 102 mph, complemented by a devastating splitter and a sharp slider. He racks up strikeouts with ease. His mound presence intimidates. His ability to shut down opposing lineups makes him one of the most feared pitchers in the game.
But Ohtani’s brilliance doesn’t end when he steps off the mound. As a designated hitter, he is also one of baseball’s most prolific power threats. With a smooth, powerful swing, he launches towering home runs that leave fans and opponents speechless.

New Tour Spotlights Chicano Landmarks in East L.A.
Urban planner James Rojas leads walking tours of East Los Angeles, highlighting the rich history and cultural significance of Chicano and Latino landmarks. One notable stop is the Pan American Bank, California’s oldest Latino owned bank, adorned with a historic mural by Mexican artist José Reyes Meza.
The tours aim to deepen community awareness by uncovering the stories behind these spaces, such as the contributions of Romana Acosta Bañuelos, the bank’s founder and a former U.S. treasurer. Rojas emphasizes the importance of preserving and celebrating these cultural landmarks, especially in times of heightened challenges for immigrant communities.
Portland Strengthens Its Commitment as an Immigrant Sanctuary
The Portland City Council has solidified the city’s status as an immigrant sanctuary by passing two resolutions. The first, largely symbolic, opposes federal militarized immigration enforcement. The second, binding, ensures city resources cannot be used to enforce federal immigration laws.
The move builds on Portland’s 2017 sanctuary declaration and comes amid heightened federal immigration actions. The council’s decision underscores its commitment to protecting immigrant communities and resisting federal overreach, though questions remain about implementation and costs.
Trump Administration Restores Student Loan Forgiveness
The Trump administration has reached an agreement with the American Federation of Teachers to resume student loan forgiveness under income-driven repayment plans, which had been partially blocked earlier this year.
The decision impacts over 2.5 million borrowers enrolled in the Income-Contingent Repayment and Pay as You Earn plans. The agreement ensures eligible borrowers will receive debt relief without federal tax liability for 2025, marking a significant win for public service workers and other borrowers. The move follows legal challenges and criticism over the administration’s earlier pause on forgiveness programs.
The Real Story Behind “The Three Caballeros”
When reminiscing old classics from the Disney vault, we usually bring up “Bambi,” “Pinocchio,” “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” or other great animated achievements that the Walt Disney animators brought to life.
However, one movie that seems to have gone under the radar for Disney fans is the 1944 animated/live-action hybrid “The Three Caballeros,” starring Donald Duck and his Latino co-stars, José Carioca from Brazil, and Panchito Pistoles from Mexico.
