The Supreme Court ended its term Tuesday with two rulings that, taken together, say more about the Court’s governing philosophy than either opinion does alone.
In one case, the Court rejected the Trump administration’s attempt to narrow birthright citizenship, preserving the longstanding constitutional understanding that children born on U.S. soil are citizens regardless of their parents’ immigration status.
In the other, the Court upheld state bans preventing transgender girls and women from competing in girls’ and women’s sports, effectively allowing states to draw eligibility lines based on biological sex.
