Poll: Most Americans Don’t Know What Cinco De Mayo Celebrates
A new poll by YouGov has found that more than half of Americans don’t know what Cinco De Mayo celebrates. According to the poll, “41 percent of US adults surveyed believe that Cinco de Mayo is Mexico’s Independence Day. But a nearly equal number (40%) say that it isn’t, while another 19 percent are unsure.”
Celebrating “Zoot Suit” By Luis Valdez
Luis Valdez directed the film based on his own play, which originated from the iconic Teatro Campesino and was also the first Chicano play to debut at Broadway in 1979. The film, released in 1981, stayed true to its stage roots, as numerous scenes feature shots of audience members watching the “film” as well as laugh tracks during a few scenes. Read more.
