My heart đŸ’–. Thank you so much for this tribute to both the music, and the culture it continues to define. I am a Boomer who cruised to these songs before most were considered oldies. ‘Cultural muscle memory’, indeed! I grew up in San Pedro Class of 1970 where the brown /black mix you refer to was real. It was a world unto itself. And I’ll always love lowrider cars as exquisite art on wheels. Thanks to car club dances and fundraisers, I got to experience live bands like El Chicano and Malo. And not that it matters, but I am white.
I grew up on the jams of the 70’s so in addition to the occasional doo wop and big band swing of my Abuela’s era, Marvin Gay, EWF, Stevie, Bob Marley, Santana, Malo, Celia, & Funkadelic fill the ears of my daughters upbringing. Thanks for this.
