Church Steps In: Hope For Immigrant Families Grows! 🙏🏽
In a city as diverse and vibrant as Los Angeles, the immigrant community plays a vital role in shaping its unique character. Recognizing this, Archbishop José H. Gomez of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles has announced a new initiative aimed at supporting immigrant families affected by ongoing immigration enforcement operations.
The program, unveiled during a press conference at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, seeks to provide stability and security to families living in fear of deportation. Joined by former mayoral candidate Rick Caruso and other church leaders, Archbishop Gomez emphasized the Catholic Church's commitment to standing with immigrants during these challenging times.

Raids Spark Outrage: Civil Liberties Under Siege! ⚠️
On May 2, 2025, a routine drive to work with his mother and friends became an ordeal that 18-year-old Kenny Laynez-Ambrosio will never forget. What started as a simple traffic stop in North Palm Beach quickly escalated into a violent confrontation with law enforcement, highlighting the harsh realities of immigration enforcement in the United States.
Kenny, a U.S. citizen, was driving to his landscaping job when a Florida highway patrol officer pulled over their van, citing a suspended license for his mother, who was at the wheel. Almost immediately, backup was called, including U.S. Border Patrol officers. What followed were aggressive tactics that Laynez-Ambrosio captured on video—a video that has now ignited national scrutiny.
Gallup Shocker: Independents Reject Trump… and Party Lines 👀
According to a new Gallup poll, President Donald Trump’s approval rating has plummeted to 37% six months into his second term, marking the lowest point of this term and nearing his all-time low of 34%. This decline is primarily driven by independents, whose support has dropped 17 points since January to a mere 29%.
While Republican approval remains high, steady around 90%, and Democratic approval sits in single digits, this shift among independents underscores a growing dissatisfaction beyond party lines. The poll highlights that Trump’s approval on key issues, including the federal budget and the economy, has also waned, with his highest rating—that for handling the Iran situation—still underwater at 42%.
Flashback: Don’t Forget The Chicanos Who Served In Vietnam 🔦
Few events played a bigger role in uniting the Mexican American community and strengthening the Chicano Civil Rights Movement than the Vietnam War, which “officially” began in 1955 (although an argument can probably be made it unofficially began long before that).
Mexican Americans not only served in the Vietnam War like white Americans, but like most Americans who were drafted and served, returned home to the United States after the war feeling defeated and disillusioned.
For Subscribers: The First Time A U.S. President Visited Mexico
Since Gerald Ford, the visit to Mexico has been a foreign priority, and the presidents made it within their first months in office.
Obama visited Mexico five times, George Bush Jr. six times, Bill Clinton twice, Bush the father once, and Reagan six.
Starting with Truman, who was in Mexico on four occasions, each one has recognized in Mexico an ally, an opportunity and one of the main objectives of U.S. foreign policy. They have demonstrated this with official and informal visits, even if traditionally US presidents are not big travelers, and they pass their time in office without stopping by most of the countries of the world.
Defiant History: First Episode Drops Next Monday! 🍿
Defiant History is a compelling new micro‑documentary series created by filmmaker Brandon Loran Maxwell, best known for his work on American Homeboy. The series debuts August 4 on the Daily Chela YouTube channel, with plans to expand to major streaming later this year.
The three‑episode pilot dives into underrepresented slices of American subculture—like lowrider club plaques, Teen Angels magazine, prison‑based rehabilitation efforts, and graffiti art. Featured voices include Compton’s David Oropeza (Tattoo Nation), members of Sullen Art Collective, and artists from the Venice art walls.
