PODCAST - SLEEPY LAGOON AND THE ZOOT SUIT RIOTS
In this episode of The Daily Chela Podcast, Brandon sits down with renowned Latino history professor and author Eduardo Pagán for a powerful and eye-opening conversation about the murder of José Díaz at Sleepy Lagoon in 1942—an event that set the stage for the infamous Zoot Suit Riots.
Together, they unpack the racial tensions, media narratives, and systemic injustices that fueled the attacks on Mexican American youth in Los Angeles, and explore why this dark but crucial chapter of American history still resonates today. Don’t miss this important discussion that brings clarity to the past and relevance to the present.
MOVIES - AMERICAN HOMEBOY
Watch American Homeboy now streaming on Apple TV and Tubi. This powerful award winning documentary explores the untold history of Chicano identity, from the early roots of pachuco culture to the modern-day street experience.
More than just a film, American Homeboy is a tribute to resilience, culture, and community—narrated through real stories, personalities, and leaders.
Don’t miss this look at a history that deserves to be seen, remembered, and talked about.
HISTORY - THE 201ST SQUADRON: MEXICO’S GREATEST GENERATION
Historians agree that Mexico’s main contribution to World War II was to provide the United States with precious raw materials especially oil—sorely needed in the war front across the ocean.
But few know that Mexico, in addition to Brazil, was the only country in Latin America to send troops against the Berlin-Rome-Tokyo Axis.
This is the story of the 201st Squadron, also known as the “Aztec Eagles,” a group of 30 Mexican combat pilots, most of them in their early 20s, who fought in the Philippines under legendary General Douglas MacArthur.
TV SERIES - COMING THIS SUMMER: DEFIANT HISTORY
